Korean fencing star Oh Sang-uk (Daejeon Metropolitan City Hall) has swept both the individual and team events at the National Sports Festival, held right after he claimed two gold medals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Competing as part of the Daejeon selection team alongside Park Sang-won, Kim Jae-won (both from Daejeon Metropolitan City Hall), and Yu Tae-min (Daejeon University), Oh led his team to a 45-21 victory over the Gyeonggi selection team in the men's general division sabre team final at the Seogwipo Comprehensive Gymnasium on the 21st.
Having achieved two consecutive titles in the men's general division individual event on the 16th, Oh also spearheaded Daejeon's fourth consecutive victory in the team event, a streak continuing from 2023.
Having won two gold medals at both the 2024 Paris Olympics and this year's Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, Oh reconfirmed his status as the ultimate powerhouse by sweeping the gold medals at the National Sports Festival as well.
After defeating the Chungnam Sports Council 45-20 in their opening team match on the 18th, Daejeon brushed past Honam University 45-27 in the quarterfinals.
They defeated the Daegu selection team 45-36 in the semifinals the previous day, and secured a comfortable, landslide victory in the final on this day.
In the 6th round of the final, Oh faced Ha Han-sol (Seongnam City Hall) in a rematch of their individual final, widening the gap to 30-16. He then concluded the match by conceding just one point in the final 9th round against Seong Hyun-mo (Seongnam City Hall).
Oh shared his thoughts, saying, "In the individual event, there were moments where I won dramatically in the semifinals, and I had some regrets. Since the team event was still ahead, I remained tense and unsatisfied, but now that the team event is over, I feel relieved and liberated that the competition has finally concluded."
Park Ji-hee (Seoul Metropolitan Government), who took home silver medals in both the women's foil individual and team events at the Asian Games, also contributed to Seoul's victory in the women's general division team event on this day, becoming a double gold medalist of the tournament.
In the women's general division sabre team event, Asian Games team gold medalists Jeon Ha-young (Seoul Metropolitan Government) and Seo Ji-yeon (Ansan City Hall) faced off as opponents.
Ansan City Hall representing Gyeonggi Province, which included Seo Ji-yeon, defeated the Seoul selection team featuring Jeon Ha-young, the individual champion of this tournament, 45-39 to claim the title.
Song Se-ra (Busan Metropolitan City Hall), the gold medalist in the women's epee individual event at the Asian Games, led her team to victory in the women's general division team event on this day, soothing the disappointment of her loss in the individual semifinals of this tournament.
In the men's general division epee team event, the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Office reached the top, while the foil team event was won by the Gyeonggi selection team featuring Asian Games bronze medalists Yoon Jung-hyun and Lee Kwang-hyun (Hwaseong Special City Hall).
