A man in his 60s who allegedly attacked his ex-wife with a weapon despite her being under police protection is attending a pre-trial detention hearing today (Oct. 21).
The Suwon District Court's Seongnam Branch is holding the warrant review at 11 a.m. today for suspect A, who faces charges of attempted murder.
Earlier at around 10 a.m. today, suspect A emerged from the Bundang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province wearing a gray long-sleeved t-shirt and no mask.
He got into a transport vehicle bound for the court without answering any questions from reporters, such as "Why did you wield the weapon?", "When did you plan the crime?", "Why did you go to your former sister-in-law's house? Did you intend to kill her as well?", and "Do you have anything to say to your ex-wife?"
Whether suspect A will be detained is expected to be decided as early as this afternoon.
Suspect A is accused of waiting in front of the front door of his 60-year-old ex-wife B's home in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, at around 8:05 a.m. on October 19, and then forcing his way in and attacking her with a weapon when B opened the door to leave for work.
Having fled immediately after the crime, he was emergency-arrested by police about two hours later while roaming around with a weapon in front of the home of B's older sister in Jungrang-gu, Seoul.
B, who was severely injured, remains unconscious as of today.
