As the first Korean film series to surpass 10 million viewers for both of its installments, 'Along with the Gods' is returning with a new story.
Preparation is reportedly underway with the goal of starting filming in the latter half of next year.
The third installment of Along with the Gods, titled 'Along with the Gods - Life and Death', is set in 'Gucheon,' a place where souls linger because lingering attachments prevent them from leaving for the afterlife.
It tells the story of a protagonist, stalled between life and death, crossing nine worlds to find a song they were never able to finish singing.
Director Kim Yong-hwa, who helmed the previous series, is reportedly preparing for production with the goal of filming in the second half of next year.
Based on the webtoon by Joo Ho-min, the Along with the Gods series depicts the afterlife and hell based on Eastern views of the afterlife.
Released in 2017, 'Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds' attracted over 14.4 million viewers, while its 2018 sequel 'Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days' drew over 12.2 million viewers, setting a record as the first Korean film series to have both parts 1 and 2 surpass 10 million moviegoers each.
