On October 3, during the busy National Foundation Day holiday weekend, someone suddenly shouted "Fire!" in the dining hall of a crowded restaurant. When the owner, who was cooking in the kitchen, rushed out in shock, flames were blazing from a table ordering terminal. After putting out the fire, the owner had to let startled customers leave without paying, shut down business for several hours to clean up, and deal with burned appliances and furniture. The financial damage to the owner was immense. The fire started from the battery of the table ordering terminal, and the informant was furious over the response from the company with which they had a rental contract for the terminals. Furthermore, according to the battery manufacturer, it is a battery that is originally recommended to be replaced every six months. Had proper replacements or notices been provided in the meantime? We look into who should be held responsible for this accident and how small business owners can prepare to prevent such damage.
