A senior police official accused of illegally arresting a truck driver at the request of an acquaintance and submitting a false report regarding the incident has been placed on leave.

The Gyeonggi Bukbu Provincial Police Agency announced that it has placed Superintendent A, the head of the investigation division at a local police station, on leave while conducting an internal inspection and a preliminary investigation.

Superintendent A is suspected of abusing his authority on August 21 while arresting a dump truck driver, identified as B, who was performing landfill work, after receiving a request from an acquaintance.

According to reports, Superintendent A arbitrarily concluded that B's waste landfill work was illegal and arrested B on the spot.

Superintendent A is also accused of falsely reporting that B had fled during the arrest process, when B was actually released.

Having received a petition from B, the police placed Superintendent A on leave and are conducting both a preliminary investigation and an inspection into allegations including abuse of power.
