Special Prosecutor Lee Tae-han, who is leading the investigation into the ballot shortage incident during the June 3 local elections, is scheduled to make a courtesy visit to the Serious Crime Investigation Agency (SCIA) tomorrow.

The special counsel team announced through a press release today (October 20) that Special Prosecutor Lee plans to visit the main office of the SCIA at 3:00 p.m. on October 21 to meet with newly appointed SCIA Chief Kim Ji-yong.

During the visit, Special Prosecutor Lee and SCIA officials, including Chief Kim, are expected to discuss matters regarding the dispatch of prosecutors and investigators required by the special counsel team, as well as measures for investigative cooperation.

Previously, Special Prosecutor Lee stated at the special counsel team's launch ceremony held on September 7, "Since prosecutors' investigators no longer hold investigative powers, there is a possibility that issues could arise regarding their investigative authority following deployment, so we received a minimal number of personnel dispatched." He added, "We plan to visit the SCIA in the future to request additional investigator dispatches."

The special counsel team is currently investigating 12 allegations, including the local election ballot shortage, manipulation of voting statistics, overseas junket trips by Election Commission officials, irregularities in hiring and promotions, and preferential treatment in private contracts and collusion with businesses.

The main investigation period is 90 days, which can be extended by 30 days twice if necessary, allowing for a maximum investigation period of 150 days.
