English professional football club Tottenham Hotspur secured their first Premier League (EPL) win of the season after seven matches, propelled by James Maddison's scoring return from injury.
Tottenham defeated Coventry City 3-1 in the 7th round home match of the 2026-2027 EPL season held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on the 19th (local time).
This marks Tottenham's first league win of the season, lifting them out of a seemingly endless slump and bringing their first league victory in 148 days.
Tottenham also became the last of the 92 clubs across the top four tiers of English professional football to claim their first win of the season.
With 6 points (1 win, 3 draws, 3 losses), Tottenham climbed out of last place to 16th.
Coventry sits in 17th place with the same number of points.
Having barely avoided relegation last season, Tottenham heavily reinforced their squad by spending over 308 million pounds (approx. 546.5 billion KRW) in the summer transfer window. However, until this match, they had helplessly plummeted amid a goal drought of just 3 goals, finally securing their maiden win.
Making his first start in 1 year and 5 months, Maddison received a pass from Mohammed Kudus in the 14th minute of the first half and scored the opening goal with a curling shot.
Maddison, a second-line attacking midfielder and a core of Tottenham's offense, had been sidelined due to a severe right knee anterior cruciate ligament tear sustained in August of last year.

Coventry leveled the score 4 minutes into the second half capitalizing on a Tottenham defensive error through Jack Rudoni's goal, but Tottenham regained the lead 9 minutes later with a goal by Omar Marmoush.
This is Marmoush's first goal since joining on loan from Manchester City.
During stoppage time in the second half, Ben Davies, who came on as a substitute, netted the sealing goal from the edge of the penalty area.
Toward the end of the match, Dejan Kulusevski, who also returned from injury, was substituted in, receiving loud cheers from Tottenham fans.
Kulusevski injured his knee in May 2025.
After the match, Maddison said, "I wanted to show my strengths, what I bring to the team, and what the team has been missing since my last start," adding, "I am 29 years old and still have a lot of time left."
