Kim Ji-yong, head of the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency (SCIA), has stated that he will "eradicate the politicization of investigations and firmly secure political neutrality and investigative independence."

During his first doorstep remarks on his way to work this morning (the 19th), SCIA Chief Kim directly explained his vision for the early stabilization and operation of the agency to reporters.

First, Chief Kim stated, "We will swiftly stabilize the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency, which is the fruit of criminal justice reform, and strengthen the nation's response capabilities against major crimes." He added that right after his appointment last week, he ordered the formation of a dedicated task force (TF) for the early stabilization of the agency.

Chief Kim also emphasized, "We will eradicate the politicization of investigations and firmly establish political neutrality and investigative independence."

Regarding recent remarks by President Lee Jae-myung that investigative agency heads need to attend Cabinet meetings, Kim avoided a direct answer when asked by reporters about his intentions to attend, stating, "We will appropriately decide whether to attend through relevant laws and consultations with related agencies."

Furthermore, Chief Kim mentioned, "We will thoroughly safeguard the rights, interests, and human rights of the public to ensure there are no gaps in protecting the socially vulnerable and crime victims."

Following his receipt of the letter of appointment from President Lee, the SCIA plans to hold its official inauguration ceremony tomorrow.
