A large signboard hanging on the exterior wall of a building sways in the wind, barely dangling by one side.

Vehicles drive precariously beneath the detached signboard.

At around 1:40 p.m. today (October 18), a signboard was blown down by strong winds in Sinpo-dong, Incheon.

In Simgok-dong, Incheon, a church spire installed at the height of a fourth-story building crashed onto the road.

Fortunately, no one was injured. At the time, Incheon was experiencing sudden gusts with peak wind speeds reaching around 20 meters per second.

Around the same time in Seoul, firefighters were clearing fallen tree branches from the road amid strong winds.

At around 2:00 p.m. in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul, a roadside tree on the sidewalk failed to withstand the strong winds and was uprooted entirely.

Event tents collapsed at Cheonggye Plaza.

Strong winds also lashed Jeju.

At around 3:00 p.m., a tree collapsed near the forest tunnel on the 5.16 Road connecting Jeju City and Seogwipo, restricting traffic on mountainous roads.

Aviation routes also faced disruptions.

At Incheon International Airport, 40 flights were canceled—including 36 pre-cancelled in accordance with weather forecasts—and 9 flights were diverted.

At Gimpo Airport as well, around 140 arriving and departing flights were delayed and 8 were canceled.

High wind advisories issued for the capital area, Chungnam, the coasts of Honam and the East Coast, and Jeju are expected to remain in effect until tonight, and until tomorrow morning in some regions.
