A woman in her 30s who repeatedly threw porcelain plates and glass cups outside from an apartment building in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, has been arrested following a police investigation.
The Pyeongtaek Police Station announced that it has arrested a woman in her 30s, identified as A, on charges of special assault.
A is accused of throwing ceramic bowls, glass cups, and other items outside four to five times from the upper floors of an apartment building in Godeong-dong, Pyeongtaek, where she resides, between October 12 and October 17.
Fortunately, no one was hit by the objects, but being struck by items falling from a high-rise could have led to a major accident.
The apartment management office, which first discovered the incident, advised residents to exercise caution when passing by and reported it to the police on October 13.
Police installed police tape around the drop zone to restrict resident access and tracked down where the items were falling from.
However, because the building is several dozen stories high and there are no nearby CCTV cameras, investigators faced difficulties identifying the suspect.
When items continued to fall on multiple subsequent occasions, police concluded that additional crimes could occur. Consequently, starting at 9:00 a.m. yesterday, they set up a tripod at the scene and recorded the exterior wall of the building using a smartphone.
During this process, objects were captured falling once again, and police used this footage to pinpoint the throwing location.
Entering the household suspected of throwing the items, police confirmed items similar to those previously thrown.
In police questioning, A admitted to throwing the items outside, reportedly stating that she was "stressed out."
Considering A's health condition and the risk of repeat offenses, police took steps to have her placed in emergency hospitalization with the cooperation of her guardian.
