Los Angeles FC (LAFC) of Major League Soccer (MLS) failed to extend its upward momentum amid disappointment over Son Heung-min hitting the goalpost.

LAFC played to a 1-1 draw in an away MLS match held at City Field in New York today (October 18).

Having secured a victory in its previous match after a five-game winless streak, LAFC aimed for back-to-back wins but had to settle for a second consecutive match without a loss.

Sitting 6th in the Western Conference with 46 points, LAFC faces uncertainty in securing a direct ticket to the first round of the playoffs, which is given up to the 7th place.

Having failed to create significant chances after kickoff, LAFC broke the deadlock in the 44th minute of the first half when a free-kick induced by Son Heung-min led to the opening goal by Balta.

As Son Heung-min sprinted swiftly through midfield, Aiden O'Neill of New York City pulled him from behind, resulting in a yellow card for O'Neill.

Step up as the free-kick taker, Balta struck a right-footed shot from 25 meters out, finding the bottom right corner of the New York City goal.

Ending the first half up 1-0, LAFC conceded the equalizer in the 14th minute of the second half from a corner kick.

During the corner kick situation, New York City's Andreas Perea surged toward the right side of the penalty area and found the back of the net with a header.

Son Heung-min expressed regret after his left-footed curling shot from just outside the right side of the penalty box in the 35th minute of the second half went straight to the goalkeeper, followed by a right-footed shot right before the end of the second half that struck the opponent's goalpost and bounced out.
