The Serious Crime Investigation Office assigned the case involving independent Representative Han Dong-hoon—who was accused of third-party bribery, instigation of evidence destruction, and obstruction of business in connection with suspicions surrounding his daughter's alleged false résumé—to the Anti-Corruption Investigation Bureau of the Seoul Regional Investigation Office today (Oct. 16).
Yesterday, the civic group Citizens' Action for Justice (CAJ) filed a complaint with the Investigation Office against four individuals, including Rep. Han and his spouse, attorney Jin Eun-jung, regarding the suspicions surrounding their daughter's résumé.
The suspicions regarding Rep. Han's daughter's résumé were first raised in 2022 when Rep. Han was a nominee for Minister of Justice.
At the time, suspicions were raised that Rep. Han and attorney Jin had a company sponsor used laptops to help their daughter donate them to a welfare center for her résumé building.
An alumnus connection between an executive of the company and attorney Jin was pointed out as the link.
Suspensions were also raised that his daughter had her thesis ghostwritten and plagiarized for an overseas academic conference, and that she inflated her volunteer hours.
The previous day, CAJ submitted the complaint to the Investigation Office, stating, "Despite related reports and civic group complaints, the related investigations have never been properly conducted."
This civic group complaint regarding the core case was filed again recently as suspicions were raised that Rep. Han covered up police investigations into his daughter's false résumé allegations while serving as Minister of Justice.
In 2023, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency concluded that the allegations—including Rep. Han, his spouse, and his daughter inflating volunteer hours and ghostwriting theses—were groundless and decided not to forward the case for prosecution.
