A man in his 60s has been apprehended by police after calling 119 to threaten to set fire to an official residence in anger over remarks made by Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae regarding firefighting finances.
The Haeundae Police Station in Busan announced on October 16 that it has booked a man in his 60s, identified as A, without detention on charges of obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means.
A is suspected of calling 119 at around 10:26 a.m. yesterday (October 15) and threatening, "I will set fire to the Gyeonggi governor's official residence."
Police investigations revealed that A committed the act out of anger while watching news related to the parliamentary audit, specifically regarding Governor Choo's remarks.
Police apprehended A at around 11:25 a.m. on the day of the report while he was hospitalized at a hospital in Busan.
Governor Choo sparked controversy during the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee audit held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government building on October 13, when she remarked regarding firefighting budgets, "Firefighting seems like the biggest troublesome financial straw."
