Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Hong Ji-sun visited Gwangju Military Airport today (the 15th) to inspect the progress of the Honam region's high-tech semiconductor national industrial complex development project.

The Honam region semiconductor national industrial complex is one of the three mega-projects promoted by the government, and it is an industrial complex being developed in accordance with the corporate 800 trillion won semiconductor fab investment plan announced on June 29.

Following the designation of the national industrial complex candidate site and the preliminary project executor at the end of July, the establishment of the industrial complex plan and design work have been underway since the 1st of this month.

Minister Hong visited the 1st Fighter Wing of Gwangju Military Airport, located in the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special Self-Governing City, and requested cooperation from Air Force officials for the advancement of the project.

Minister Hong stated, "I deeply appreciate the Air Force's participation through base relocation for this national project," adding, "As the government is making pan-governmental efforts for the prompt execution of the project, the active cooperation of the Air Force is necessary."

He then inspected the airport facilities and site conditions from the Gwangju Military Airport control tower and visited the ammunition depot relocation site, which is under review as a priority development area, to check the field conditions.

Minister Hong emphasized, "The key is to develop and provide the industrial complex site at an unprecedented pace in alignment with corporate investment schedules," adding, "We will actively reflect corporate demands during the industrial complex planning process to establish sufficient land."

He also added, "We will simultaneously and seamlessly push forward with the expansion of connected transportation networks and the improvement of residential environments so that corporate investments lead to substantial regional growth," and "We will actively cooperate with related organizations to ensure the timely supply of core infrastructure such as electricity and water."
