Yoo Jae-hak, head of the adult men's competition improvement committee at the Korea Basketball Association (KBA), has resigned.
The KBA announced today (the 15th) that "following the meaningful achievement of the men's national team winning the gold medal and returning to the top of Asia for the first time in 12 years at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, Committee Chairman Yoo Jae-hak has decided to step down from his position."
Yoo, a legendary manager representing domestic professional basketball, was appointed as the men's competition improvement committee chairman in April of last year when the association formed its 35th executive body, serving in the role for about a year and a half.
During that time, the men's national team welcomed its first-ever foreign head coach, Nikolajs Mazurs of Latvia, and secured its first championship in 12 years at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games held last month.
Yoo, who has also been serving as the head of KBL game operations since 2024, said, "It was meaningful to be able to contribute to the development of the men's national basketball team. Moving forward, I intend to focus more on my role as the KBL head of game operations." He added, "As a basketball person, I will continue to communicate with the association and keep cheering for the development of the men's national team and Korean basketball."
The KBA has decided not to separately appoint a successor committee chairman until the remaining term of Yoo expires early next year.
Instead, Vice Chairman Eun Hee-seok will lead the operation of the adult men's competition improvement committee.
