The running craze shows no signs of slowing down.

However, tragic accidents resulting from it are also continuing to occur.

Amidst this, a video message from marathon legend and 1992 Barcelona Olympic gold medalist, coach Hwang Young-jo, urging that runners "must know when to quit," is drawing attention.

The background behind this is that on October 11, a tragic accident occurred where a participant in her 20s collapsed and died about 500 meters before the finish line of a half-marathon race.

Hwang Young-jo, a coach at the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, uploaded a video addressing these tragic accidents to YouTube on October 13.

"People run to live a long and healthy life, but running for health is turning into running toward death," he advised, adding that "you must carefully check your physical condition before exercising."

He explained that ordinary people, suffering from work stress and lacking sufficient sleep, can face an increased risk of accidents if they participate in competitions without proper training.

"A person who knows how to quit is a good runner," he said, adding that "if something feels wrong with your body, you should not push yourself and instead stop."

He also pointed out the culture of flaunting running records on social media.

He advised people not to run recklessly out of an obsession with records, and suggested that if you are not in good condition, you should slow down and think, "I'll just run for practice today."
