LG and Doosan faced off in a wild card playoff for the first time at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, which is scheduled to be demolished at the end of this season.
It was LG that grabbed the early momentum.
In the first inning, Austin, who had fallen into a severe slump toward the end of the regular season, celebrated his 33rd birthday by driving a curveball from Doosan starting pitcher Kwak 빈 over the left-field wall for a momentum-shifting two-run shot.
In the second inning, taking advantage of a Doosan defensive miscue, LG seized a golden scoring opportunity with no outs and bases loaded, but Kwak 빈 struck out LG's Hong Chang-ki, Park Hae-min, and Austin in succession, roaring in celebration.
Afterwards, settling down, Kwak 빈 recorded 10 strikeouts through the sixth inning, setting a record for the most strikeouts in wild card history.
The stellar pitching of LG starting pitcher Carrasco, who made three postseason starts in the big leagues, also stood out.
He dominated the Doosan lineup through the sixth inning, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out three.
As of the seventh inning, a 2-1 deadlock continues.
All 23,650 tickets for the game at Jamsil Baseball Stadium were sold out today, extending the postseason consecutive sellout streak to 38 games.
