Financial authorities announced today (October 14) that a total of 16 financial institutions across all sectors have been identified so far as having suffered AI hacking breaches.
The Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service held the 2nd emergency response meeting at the Government Complex Seoul this afternoon to share these findings from the financial sector's AI hacking incident inspections.
According to the authorities, following the breach at Shinhan Bank, a total of 16 financial companies across various sectors—including commercial banks, savings banks, mutual finance institutions, specialized credit finance companies, electronic financial businesses, online-to-offline (P2P) lending platforms, and virtual asset service providers—have been confirmed to have experienced security breaches.
The scale of leaked financial company information confirmed so far, including names, contact numbers, resident registration numbers, and email addresses, stands at approximately 100,000 records.
The authorities stated, "Financial institutions are still checking for any occurrences of breaches based on shared internet protocol (IP) addresses, and the number of affected financial companies could increase further."
However, they noted that no cases involving account numbers or card numbers, which could be directly used for unauthorized payments, have been found among the leaked data.
