▲ Park Yong-su, 53, suspect in the murder of a bound couple in Naju
The identity of 53-year-old Park Yong-su, who has been arrested on charges of binding and murdering a couple in their 60s in Naju, South Jeolla Province, has been made public.
The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency posted Park's personal information, including his age and mugshot, on its website starting at 10:00 a.m. today (October 14).
The police held a disclosure deliberation committee yesterday and decided to reveal his identity.
They determined that the case met the requirements for identity disclosure, citing the brutality of the crime, the severity of the damage, the public's right to know, and the public interest in preventing recidivism.
Park, who has no fixed occupation, will have his personal information made public for 30 days until November 13.
If a suspect does not consent to the disclosure of their identity, a five-day grace period can be granted before posting, but Park did not raise any objections.
Park is accused of murdering a couple in their 60s whom he knew at a home in Naju, South Jeolla Province, between 9:28 p.m. and 11:57 p.m. on October 5.
He was arrested on charges of causing their deaths by stabbing them with a weapon and strangling them.
The victim couple was found dead the following afternoon with their hands and feet bound.
The police plan to transfer Park to the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office the day after tomorrow.
