A biological father in his 40s, accused of beating his 2-month-old daughter to death because she would not sleep, is attending his pre-arrest bail hearing, or warrant review, today (October 14).

Suwon District Court is holding the warrant review at 10:30 a.m. today for the suspect, identified as A, who faces charges including the violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes and child abuse resulting in death.

Earlier at around 8:30 a.m. today, suspect A emerged from the Yongin Dongbu Police Station wearing a dark blue hat and a mask, and boarded a transport vehicle bound for Suwon District Court.

To questions such as, "Did you hit the child because she wouldn't sleep?" and "Why did you delete the home-cam footage?", he repeatedly answered, "I'm sorry."

When further asked, "What points do you intend to explain?" he replied, "I will tell the truth." Asked if he had anything to say to his family members, he said, "I'm sorry. I am sorry," before getting into the transport vehicle.

Whether suspect A will be detained is expected to be decided sometime this afternoon.

Suspect A is accused of striking his daughter, B, in the face with his hands multiple times and causing her death in the early hours of October 11 at their home in Seodong, Osan, Gyeonggi Province.

Investigations showed that while he was sleeping with his daughter B, he grew annoyed when she kept crying and refusing to sleep, leading to the crime.

Police discovered external injuries such as bruises on the body of daughter B, and after capturing circumstances indicating that suspect A remotely deleted the home-cam footage inside his home using his smartphone right after she was pronounced dead, they emergency-arrested him on murder charges.

However, as suspect A denied having any intent to kill during subsequent police questioning, police applied the charge of child abuse resulting in death, which has been substantiated so far, and requested an arrest warrant.

Police plan to continue investigating the detailed circumstances as soon as the decision on suspect A's detention is made.
