This is outside an import car dealership in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
A man swings his belt toward another man's face.
Though bystanders try to intervene, the man swings the belt again, seemingly unable to contain his anger.
It was around 11:00 AM when the man in his 50s, surnamed A, went on a rampage that included slapping a dealership employee.
Mr. A, an executive at a small and medium-sized cosmetics company, reportedly complained about a defect in a vehicle he had purchased, claiming that the dealership employee instead implied the responsibility lay with him.
After the employee walked away, Mr. A even picked up a plastic shovel from the parking lot and searched for the employee.
[Mr. A: Hey! Where the hell did that bastard go?]
He opened restroom doors one by one,
[Mr. A: I'll find him. Come out. (Sir, please just put that down for a moment.) Come out! (Someone's going to get hurt.)]
He shouted that he would not leave until he found him.
[Mr. A: Bring him here. Bring that bastard here, bring him!]
The situation did not easily calm down even after the police arrived.
[Dealership Employee: It's all caught on camera, him hitting my face with his belt.]
[Mr. A: Hey, hey, hey, I'll just pay the fine, you bastard.]
The day after the assault, Mr. A returned to the dealership and threatened to retaliate for reporting him to the police, leading to his arrest at the scene.
[Dealership Employee: The biggest thing was being terrified. And the thought that he might come back someday and retaliate against us.]
A police official stated, "It appears there was mutual assault as the other party also struck back," adding, "No one was seriously injured."
SBS contacted the cosmetics company where Mr. A works several times to get their stance on the incident, but was unable to reach them.
