At Yonsei University's Sinchon Campus on October 10, where the essay exam for the 2027 academic year freshman recruitment was underway.
An examinee was caught wearing smart glasses capable of AI search functions during the natural sciences and integrated track essay exam, which began at 10:30 AM.
This marks the first time an attempt to cheat using smart glasses has been exposed in a college entrance examination. It was found that the examinee initially wore regular glasses and then switched to the smart glasses during the exam.
Yonsei University officials believe that although inspections regarding glasses were conducted for examinees before the test started, the student took out and switched to the AI glasses after receiving the test paper.
[Kim Yewon / Yonsei University student: Others actually spend months working hard just to solve a single essay problem, and I feel like it steals the efforts and opportunities of other people...]
[Kim Junghu / Yonsei University student: Only one person was caught, but there might be many others who weren't, so I think it would be right to conduct inspections more thoroughly.]
Over 14,000 applicants applied for the 288 openings in Yonsei University's science and engineering essay admissions track held that day, recording a competition rate of over 50 to 1.
An official from Yonsei University explained, "The proctor confiscated the AI glasses at the scene, and the examinee admitted to wearing them," adding, "We are discussing post-exam measures such as processing the test results."
Earlier on October 3, an examinee wearing AI glasses was also caught during the natural sciences essay exam at the University of Seoul. It was found that this student had also been wearing regular glasses during the pre-exam inspection.
The University of Seoul immediately expelled the examinee from the examination room and barred them from taking the exam for the next three years.
