Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong is set to receive approximately 2.6 trillion won worth of Samsung Electronics shares from Hong Ra-hee, former director of the Leeum Museum of Art.
Samsung Electronics announced in a regulatory filing on the 13th that former Director Hong will gift 11,158,000 shares of Samsung Electronics to Chairman Lee.
Based on today's (the 13th) closing price of 232,000 won for Samsung Electronics, the value of the transfer amounts to approximately 2.6 trillion won.
The scheduled date of the transfer is November 12.
Chairman Lee currently holds 105,219,053 shares of Samsung Electronics, giving him a 1.58% stake.
Once the transfer is completed, Chairman Lee's holdings will increase to 116,377,053 shares, raising his stake to 1.75%.
Former Director Hong's stake will decrease by 0.17 percentage points, from 0.99% to 0.82%.
Business circles analyzed that the impact of this family transaction on the market will be limited.
Previously in September, former Director Hong sold a 0.11% stake in Samsung Electronics, worth about 1.9 trillion won, to Chairman Lee.
The previous sale was presumed to be aimed at repaying financial institution loans that former Director Hong took out to pay off inheritance taxes in full.
In January, former Director Hong also gifted her entire holdings of Samsung C&T shares to Chairman Lee.
Through this, Chairman Lee's stake in Samsung C&T increased from 19.93% to 20.99% on a common stock basis.
