Actor RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr., a character with cerebral palsy in the American television series "Breaking Bad," has passed away. He was 34 years old.
U.S. entertainment outlet TMZ reported on October 12 (local time) that RJ Mitte died at his home in Texas, and that law enforcement authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Actor Bryan Cranston, who played RJ Mitte's "TV father" in "Breaking Bad," posted a tribute on his Instagram account that same day.
Cranston recalled, "I am in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, who was my lovely son in 'Breaking Bad,' has passed away." He continued, "RJ Mitte was cast as Walter Jr. at the age of 14, and although he was born with cerebral palsy, he never once used it as an excuse and carried out the tight filming schedule with sheer determination. He always listened to the advice that Anna Gunn and I, his TV parents, gave him, but like a true teenager, he would playfully ignore it and learn by facing things head-on. Although he was one of the leads in a hit drama, he was still just a kid."
Cranston also noted that when they first began filming the pilot in February 2007, RJ Mitte was an unpolished boy, but he watched him gradually grow into a wonderful actor. Cranston added that Mitte used his experience from the series to speak out on behalf of actors with disabilities and served as the head of a charity supporting the disability community.
Cranston expressed his affection, writing, "Just a few weeks ago, we were texting back and forth trying to make plans for lunch. I do not know if that lunch would have changed his future. But I only know that I loved him, and that I enjoyed the time we spent together both while the drama was airing and after the interest in 'Breaking Bad' had cooled down. I will miss you, son."
RJ Mitte became widely known for playing Walter Jr., the son of protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), in the AMC drama "Breaking Bad," which aired from 2008 to 2013. As an actor who actually has cerebral palsy, he went on to actively work as an advocate promoting representation for actors with disabilities in Hollywood
