It has been learned that the police are cooperating with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to identify the perpetrators and activity paths of hacking attacks targeting the domestic financial sector.
Domestic related agencies, including the National Police Agency, recently carried out cooperation procedures with the U.S. FBI, such as sending official documents.
Reports regarding the progress of the joint investigation with the United States have also reportedly been made.
This is known to be aimed at securing investigative materials, such as account information and access logs, from global security companies and artificial intelligence firms located in the United States.
It is reported that during the cooperation process, authorities are also keeping in mind the possibility that a 26-year-old Chinese man previously pointed out as the attacker may be different from the person who actually carried out the hacking.
The police are examining materials provided by a U.S. security company that served as the basis for estimating the attacker's identity, as well as materials suggesting the possibility of a connection to a Chinese DDoS proxy organization.
Previously, U.S. cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike analyzed resume information entered into an AI coding tool by the attacker and suggested the possibility that the attacker is a 26-year-old living in Guangdong Province, China.
The designated individual claimed that his mobile phone number was stolen and that he has nothing to do with the incident.
Considering trust with the partner country in the cooperation, a police official stated, "We cannot confirm specific progress, such as whether cooperation is taking place."
