An inmate found unconscious at the Uijeongbu Prison in Gyeonggi Province has died after being transported to a hospital.

According to the Uijeongbu Prison today (October 13), inmate A was found unconscious inside a detention facility at the prison in Gosan-dong, Uijeongbu, at around 5 p.m. on October 11.

Inmate A was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately passed away.

Inmate A, who lived alone in a single cell, was reportedly discovered by a correctional officer during the evening meal distribution time.

Correctional authorities are investigating the specific circumstances surrounding the death, as well as whether the prison management and supervision were appropriate.
