Professional baseball team Hanwha Eagles has appointed national team manager Ryu Ji-hyun, 55, as its 15th manager.
The Hanwha club announced on October 13 that it has signed a three-year contract with the new manager Ryu for a total of 2 billion won.
Hanwha added that it entrusted him with the helm after determining that manager Ryu is the right person to achieve the club's goal of growing into a "sustainable powerhouse."
Manager Ryu previously led the LG Twins to the postseason from 2021 to 2022.
Afterward, taking the helm of the national team in 2025, he led the team to the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) and victory at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Manager Ryu Ji-hyun stated through the club, "I thank the club for entrusting me with the manager position of such a great team, the Hanwha Eagles." He expressed his determination, saying, "Together with the best fans, using victories as nourishment, I will do my absolute best to build a prestigious team, which is the club's vision."
Seok Jang-hyun, former head of the management support office, has been slated as the successor to former general manager Son Hyuk.
The new general manager Seok Jang-hyun joined the Hanwha Eagles in 2003 and has served across various roles including scouting, public relations, operations team leader, strategy team leader, and head of the management support office. He has risen to the general manager position as the first-ever person from within the Hanwha Eagles' own staff.
