The show has seen its first-ever contestant to receive a perfect score.
On the October 12 broadcast of SBS's
The Ballad of Us Season 2, 15-year-old Park Ye-seung appeared, having moved to Seoul alone six months ago to pursue her dream.
On this day, Park drew attention by selecting Maya's "Shout Out to Me." Explaining her song choice, Park shared, "The lyrics about running forward while keeping my eyes only on my path gave me the courage to try harder and do better. Since coming to Seoul was my own choice, I want to sing to repay my parents' trust."
Park's performance completely overwhelmed everyone. Her explosive vocal volume and stable high notes moved many in the audience to a standing ovation.
Exclamations erupted from all around, such as, "A potential winner has arrived," "That's a win, a win," and "Number one." When asked if Park was a potential winner, Joo Woo-jae enthusiastically responded, "She's the only one."
In addition, Chun Hyun-moo expressed sympathy for her empty refrigerator resulting from living alone, saying, "Ye-seung, what's your home address? I'll fill your fridge for you."
Moon Geun-young and Park Kyung-lim also cheered Park on, saying, "We can even clean your place. Just say the word."
With the appearance of a powerful vocalist representing Season 2, the "Top-100 Ears" judges could not easily calm their excitement. Cha Tae-hyun, who had initially found it difficult to understand her move to Seoul for her dream and her life of living alone, also gave a thumbs up, saying, "I acknowledge her studying abroad. With this level of skill, her parents have to raise their hands in surrender. I acknowledge her living alone now."
Joo Woo-jae marveled, "Her foot-tapping rhythm was like that of a legendary rocker," adding, "I don't know much, but it seems like Ye-seung was born knowing how to sing." Roy Kim also praised her, saying, "It's been a long time since I've heard such a clean, powerful vocalist."
Furthermore, Jung Jae-hyung offered high praise, stating, "She appeared just as people were getting tired. I didn't have high expectations, but her performance felt like a wake-up call to me."
He continued, sharing his thoughts, "I am grateful for the passion of such a young girl coming all the way from Daegu to Seoul and pursuing music despite her parents' opposition. This performance broke down prejudices and gave me strength. Tears were streaming down my face during the final chorus, and it seems like passion for music can suddenly make someone cry."
Curiosity peaked over how many points Park would receive, and her performance stunned everyone once again by scoring a perfect 150 out of 150 points.
Following the appearance of the first-ever perfect-score contestant, Cha Tae-hyun confessed, "Actually, while listening, I didn't press my button until the very end. I held out until the end because I thought that if it was going to be a perfect score, I wanted to be the last one." It was revealed that Cha Tae-hyun was indeed the very last person to press the button, drawing attention.
