Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned on the 12th (local time) that Russia attacked Ukraine's gas facilities overnight, warning that Ukraine will respond if Russia does not agree to a truce.

According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, President Zelenskyy stated in a speech at the Warsaw Security Forum held in Poland that "at midnight last night, a Russian jet-propelled Shahed drone struck a gas production facility in Ukraine."

Naftogaz, Ukraine's state-owned energy company, announced that a gas production facility in the Kharkiv region was attacked by Russia overnight, damaging core equipment and causing a fire.

President Zelenskyy pointed out that "there were also Russian attacks targeting regular gas stations," adding that "these are cases where Russia violated the energy truce announced by U.S. President Donald Trump."

He also criticized, "So far, the answer Putin has given to President Trump is Russian attacks."

President Zelenskyy emphasized, "If Russia wants our attacks targeting Russian oil refineries and petroleum export facilities to stop, Russia must stop its attacks first," and added, "It must stop killing our people."

He went on to say, "We are grateful to the United States and support the energy truce initiative," while warning, "If Russia does not agree to the energy truce this winter, we will respond."

As President Trump claimed on the 11th that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a truce concerning the energy sector, attention is focused on whether both sides will actually implement the truce.

With neither Russia nor Ukraine clearly confirming whether a prior agreement existed regarding President Trump's claim of a "truce agreement," some interpretations suggest it may be pressuring remarks by President Trump aimed at driving down energy prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.

President Trump made the exact same claim on September 14 of last month, stating that both sides had agreed not to strike energy targets, but attacks by both sides continued afterward.
