President Lee Jae-myung emphasized the need for an integrated military academy being pursued by the government, saying, "As the battlefield has changed, the way we foster officers must also change."
President Lee made the remarks in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, sharing a post by Defense Ministry Spokesperson Jeong Bit-na regarding the current status of integrated military academies around the world.
"Which service—the Army, Navy, or Air Force—can drones, which are changing the game on the battlefield, be said to belong to?" President Lee asked, explaining that "drones, lasers, and robots are already crossing the boundaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force."
He added, "The core of integrating the service academies lies in nurturing talent to lead future warfare," and stated, "The government will create a military academy in the form best suited to South Korea's security environment."
