At around 12:55 p.m. today (12th), a series of collisions involving five passenger cars occurred near the Jangsu Junction on the Tongyeong-bound Daejon-Tongyeong Expressway in Jangsu-gun, Jeollabuk-do.

The accident resulted in the deaths of two passenger car occupants: a man in his 70s, surnamed A, and a man in his 60s, surnamed B.

Additionally, 11 people sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe and were transported to hospitals.

The driver of the vehicle that caused the accident, a man in his 30s, reportedly sustained minor injuries.

At the time of the accident, a trailing vehicle struck passenger cars that had come to a halt due to tunnel construction work. The impact caused the cars to be pushed forward, resulting in a total of five vehicles colliding.

Police and firefighting authorities restricted traffic on the first lane of the road for about an hour and a half.

Police believe the accident was caused by a failure to fulfill the duty of safe driving and are currently investigating the exact circumstances.
