Former Minister of National Defense Ahn Kyu-back has reportedly not yet filed a request with the Military Manpower Administration to correct his military service records regarding the "desertion allegations" raised during his term, it was learned today (October 12).
During a parliamentary audit of the Military Manpower Administration by the National Assembly's National Defense Committee held at the government complex in Daejeon today, Military Manpower Administration Commissioner Hong So-young answered "There has been no request" when asked by People Power Party lawmaker Han Ki-ho whether the former minister had requested a correction of his military records.
Former Minister Ahn, who served as the first defense minister under the Lee Jae-myung administration, previously faced attacks from the opposition over allegations that he left his post without authorization during his service as a short-term supplementary service soldier.
At the time, the Ministry of National Defense dismissed the allegations as "clearly false," arguing that there were errors in former Minister Ahn's military records.
It was also previously stated that former Minister Ahn plans to correct his military records after stepping down from his post.
