Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Province, has begun construction on a pipeline to supply treated water from a public wastewater treatment plant as industrial water to partner companies at Samsung Electronics' semiconductor business site.

Pyeongtaek City announced on the 12th that it has commenced construction to bury a 50-centimeter-diameter pipeline over a 3.23-kilometer section from the Godeok Public Wastewater Treatment Plant to the High-Tech Complex General Industrial Complex (Phase 1).

This project was arranged to supply water purified from the wastewater treatment plant as industrial water to companies moving into the high-tech complex industrial complex.

The city has been pushing forward with the wastewater treatment plant water reuse project since 2022 to protect water resources and establish an efficient water supply system.

The high-tech complex industrial complex is a semiconductor support complex being developed south of Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek campus by the end of next year.

Three companies will move into this area: Linde Korea, Air First, and Air Products Korea, which are partner companies supplying essential gases for semiconductor manufacturing processes to Samsung Electronics.

The pipeline construction will also proceed in line with the industrial complex's move-in schedule until the end of next year, and the 22.5 billion won construction cost will be entirely funded by the three gas companies receiving the industrial water.

The city plans to supply a total of 24,400 tons of water per day to the industrial complex, including 11,400 tons per day to the complex itself and 6,000 tons per day to another Linde Korea business site near the complex.

This marks the first time that Pyeongtaek City is reusing wastewater discharged from a public wastewater treatment plant as industrial water.

An official from Pyeongtaek City stated, "We decided to supply treated wastewater to the semiconductor support complex for efficient water resource utilization," adding, "We plan to complete the construction in a timely manner so that there are no disruptions to the operation schedule of the high-tech complex industrial complex."
