U.S. President Donald Trump, who is making all-out efforts to bring down oil prices with the midterm elections about three weeks away, has announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an energy truce. He stated that both sides agreed not to attack each other's energy facilities, but the Ukrainian president stated that this is the first time he has heard of it.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on his social media account on the 11th local time that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an energy truce.
He added that both sides agreed not to attack each other's energy facilities and that the agreement takes effect immediately.
While he did not disclose specific details regarding the duration or targets of the truce, he warned against violating it.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the party directly involved, stated in an interview with a foreign media outlet that it was the first time he had heard about it.
However, he added that if Russia agrees to an energy truce, it is what they have wanted, and that they would follow suit.
Russia has not yet released a specific official stance regarding the energy truce.
Recently, Trump has strongly pressured Ukraine not to attack Russian oil refineries, citing rising energy prices.
In particular, Trump and Zelenskyy engaged in a public war of words over an agreement between the U.S. and Russia to supply Russian diesel to the international market on a large scale.
When Trump even remarked that Ukraine needs a new leader, Zelenskyy hit back, stating that is a matter for the Ukrainian people to decide and offering to hold a presidential election if Russia agrees to a 60-day ceasefire.
[Volodymyr Zelenskyy / President of Ukraine: Tell Putin. Give us two months, a complete ceasefire for 60 days. If 60 days are guaranteed, we will hold an election.]
With next month's midterm elections approaching, Trump appears troubled over bringing down oil prices, but a previous energy truce agreement between Russia and Ukraine that Trump boasted about last month has already fallen through.
