As fears of a wider regional escalation grow due to intensifying attacks by Yemen's pro-Iran Houthi rebels targeting Saudi Arabia, Israel has convened an emergency security meeting.
According to Israeli daily The Times of Israel and other outlets on the 11th (local time), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presided over an emergency security meeting at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv that day.
Attended by a large group of senior security officials, including Defense Minister Israel Katz, the meeting focused intensively on issues concerning Iran, the Gaza Strip, and Lebanon.
An Israeli government official explained that the meeting was called immediately following successive Houthi rebel attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and amidst growing concerns over a potential escalation of war between the United States and Iran.
Prime Minister Netanyahu earlier strongly condemned the attack on Saudi Arabia's Riyadh airport, which resulted in 12 multinational fatalities, and expressed his condolences to Saudi Arabia.
On social media platform X, Prime Minister Netanyahu stated, "We condemn in the strongest possible terms the horrific terror attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia," adding, "Israel extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims."
Amid continuous, indiscriminate missile strikes by Houthi rebels targeting King Khalid International Airport, the heart of the Saudi capital Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's sense of crisis has deepened.
As Iran's military offensives utilizing Houthi rebels as proxy forces send shockwaves across the region, including the paralysis of critical Saudi infrastructure, Israel is also closely monitoring the possibility of the fallout spreading to its own borders within the confrontation framework between the United States and Iran, thereby strengthening its vigilance.
