U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the 11th (local time) that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a ceasefire in the energy sector.
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, President Trump stated, "An energy ceasefire has been reached in the war between Russia and Ukraine," adding that it takes effect immediately.
He went on to say, "Both sides have agreed to it," and urged, "Do not violate this."
President Trump's mention of an "energy ceasefire" is interpreted as an agreement to halt attacks on energy facilities and similar infrastructure.
However, President Trump did not mention the specific targets or duration of the ceasefire.
Russia and Ukraine have previously exchanged attacks targeting each other's energy infrastructure, such as power plants and oil refineries, dealing blows to each other's energy supplies.
President Trump has recently strongly pressured Ukraine to halt attacks on Russian oil refineries, citing rising global energy prices.
