A woman in her 40s has been arrested by police for murdering her father after losing money he gave her for investments and fearing she would be reprimanded.

The Cheonan Dongnam Police Station in South Chungcheong Province announced that it has formally arrested a woman in her 40s, identified as A, on charges of patricide.

A is accused of striking and killing her father, B, who was in his 60s and sleeping at an apartment in Cheonan, with a blunt object at around noon on September 13.

According to police investigations, A stated that she received hundreds of millions of won from her father several years ago to invest in stocks and other ventures, but suffered losses. She claimed she committed the crime after experiencing stress as her father repeatedly blamed her for the investment failures whenever they met, saying, "Because of you."

The crime was only uncovered more than three weeks later.

After the crime, A stayed at an accommodation in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, but when she cut off contact while leaving her belongings behind, a missing person report was filed. Police officers tracking her whereabouts visited B's home on October 8 and discovered B deceased.

Based on factors such as the lack of any sign that gas had been used in the house since A's visit, police identified A as a suspect and emergency arrested her.

The court issued an arrest warrant for A yesterday, October 10.

A police official stated, "A has stated that she made the decision on the day of the crime, and no circumstances indicating a premeditated crime have been confirmed so far," adding, "We plan to investigate the exact details and motive of the crime through smartphone forensics and other methods."
