A fire broke out at a waste treatment plant in Jeongnam-myeon, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, at around 1:30 AM today (October 11).
Fire authorities mobilized 18 pieces of equipment and 54 personnel, bringing the major flames under control by around 4:00 AM.
However, as it took time to clear out remaining embers due to the waste piled up at the site, the fire was completely extinguished around 12:10 PM, some 10 hours and 40 minutes after it started.
Approximately 100 tons of waste were burned in the fire, but no casualties were reported as there was no one on-site at the time.
Police and fire authorities are investigating the exact point of ignition and the cause of the fire.
