Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Kim Yong-min stated on October 11, "I entered politics because I have tasks I want to achieve, not because I covet a position."
On Facebook, Representative Kim said, "Even now, in the undeservedly high position of lawmaker, I am merely marching forward alongside comrades toward prosecutorial reform and judicial reform to create a fair world."
He added, "Even if I were to lose even that authority, I will continue to move forward."
Representative Kim's remarks are being interpreted as a rebuttal to a post on X (formerly Twitter) made by President Lee Jae-myung.
In a post published on X on October 9, President Lee wrote, "Pure radicalism may be an issue, but an even bigger problem is when those without competence demand high-level positions, try to dictate personnel appointments and national policies to their liking, and when things do not go their way, launch internal attacks under the banner of radical reform as a pretext."
This is interpreted as being directed at party hard-liners who oppose the nomination of Kim Ji-yong as head of the Major Crimes Investigation Agency.
Earlier, Representative Kim pointed out, "If a former prosecutor is appointed as head of the Major Crimes Investigation Agency and its leadership is filled with former prosecutors, investigation and indictment could merge through personal ties with the Public Prosecution Agency."
