Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the national team camp without authorization during a call-up, has received a provisional suspension from the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
According to a report by the UK's BBC on the 11th, the FPF stated in a statement that it has classified the matter as "urgent" and imposed a "provisional suspension" on Ronaldo.
Under FPF regulations, players who fail to fulfill national team duties or leave the camp without permission face fines and a suspension ranging from one to six months.
Previously, Portugal captain Ronaldo was named to the substitute bench for the UEFA Nations League match against Norway in September but did not play. He then left the national team camp after learning he would not be in the starting lineup for the subsequent match against Denmark.
Following the incident, Ronaldo took to social media to protest, stating, "Portugal national team manager Jorge Jesus broke his promise twice," and citing a "clear loss of trust" as the reason for his departure from the team.
In response, FPF President Pedro Proença said in an interview with the Portuguese outlet Record, "Now is the time to remain calm and find stability."
He added, "We are all sitting down at the table to talk," and "We strongly want our captain Ronaldo to be with us again."
However, he noted, "The disciplinary process will proceed normally."
As the controversy grew, Ronaldo acknowledged responsibility for his actions, apologized to his teammates and fans, and expressed his willingness to accept the disciplinary measures.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner emphasized that he will not retire from the national team, as he is chasing the milestone of 1,000 career goals.
Holding the men's international record with 146 goals in 234 career A-matches, Ronaldo needs just 20 more goals to complete the historic milestone of 1,000 career goals.
Having previously led Portugal to two Nations League titles, he also quietly eyes a third triumph in the tournament.
Meanwhile, having returned to the pitch for his club side last week, Ronaldo scored his 980th career goal in a match against Al-Diriyah Club, leading Al-Nassr to a 3-0 victory.
