U.S. President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on the Nobel Committee, calling his failure to win the Nobel Peace Prize an "indelible stain."
Speaking at a campaign rally for the midterm elections in Syracuse, New York, on the 9th (local time), Trump said, "Today the Nobel Peace Prize went to someone I've never heard of," describing the winner as a "mysterious figure that nobody knows."
This year's Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Navi Pillay, a human rights law expert who has served as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and as a judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Trump claimed that he has ended eight wars, asserting, "If I had resolved just one of these, I could have received the Nobel Prize."
He added, "We should have received eight Nobel Prizes, one for each of these wars."
"The United States, represented by your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but we didn't," he criticized, calling it "an indelible stain on Norway and the people who made such a shameful and disgraceful decision."
Trump cited examples of conflicts he claims to have resolved, including India-Pakistan, Israel-Hamas, Egypt-Ethiopia, Congo-Rwanda, and Kosovo-Serbia.
He also claimed, "I am constantly preventing wars between South Korea and North Korea, Japan and North Korea, and China and Taiwan," arguing that wars are not breaking out in these regions thanks to his role.
Furthermore, he expressed confidence that he would soon resolve the wars in Iran and Ukraine.
Regarding the conflict with Iran in particular, he said, "It's going to be concluded very quickly, one way or the other. Either they give us everything, or they no longer exist. They know that, too."
Trump repeatedly voiced his grievances, stating, "The Nobel Peace Prize has been permanently discredited by a small group of people with radical ideologies who are anti-democratic and essentially enemies of civilization. We will not forget Norway, which refused to give us this award despite achieving the greatest accomplishments in history."
On this day, Trump focused on boosting voter turnout for the midterm elections by supporting Bruce Blakeman, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in New York State, a Democratic stronghold.
He appealed to his base to participate in the voting, saying, "If I'm not on the ballot, 48% of you don't vote. Please pretend like I am on the ballot."
