Samsung, which finished at the very bottom of the professional basketball league for the past five consecutive seasons, defeated Jung Kwan Jang to achieve two consecutive opening wins for the first time in 10 years.

In the fourth quarter, entering with a narrow one-point lead at 48–47, second-year forward Lee Kyu-tae stepped up as the clutch solver.

Following the team's first score, he consecutively hit two crucial three-pointers to fend off Jung Kwan Jang's chase, and with 2 minutes and 19 seconds remaining in the game, he successfully sank all three free throws earned from a foul to widen the gap to 9 points and seal the victory.

Powered by Lee Kyu-tae's stellar performance of scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter alone, Samsung won 66–58.

After finishing at the bottom for five straight seasons, Samsung newly appointed head coach Kim Sang-shik and has signaled a changed appearance this season by recording two straight opening wins for the first time in a decade.
