Navi Pillay, former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from South Africa, was named the recipient of this year's Nobel Peace Prize on the 9th, local time.
Pillay, who has served as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and as a judge on the International Criminal Court (ICC), was recognized for her efforts to promote peace and international law, including defending former South African President Nelson Mandela against apartheid, the white minority rule segregation policy in South Africa.
U.S. President Trump and South Korean citizens who thwarted the illegal emergency martial law on December 3, 2024, through nonviolent resistance failed to win the prize.
