During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly held at the UN Headquarters in New York on the night of October 8 (local time), Cha Ji-hoon, South Korea's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated regarding the Demilitarized Zone landmine explosion that occurred on September 21 that it was confirmed to be caused by landmines intentionally buried south of the Military Demarcation Line by the North Korean military, calling it a clear violation of the armistice agreement.

He then urged North Korea to halt acts that escalate tensions, issue a public apology, and take responsible measures, while demanding that Pyongyang engage in dialogue to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula and restore trust.

In response, the North Korean representative claimed that the landmine explosion incident was a malicious obstructive act aimed at framing the fortification of the southern border area—a legitimate exercise of sovereignty—as military aggression.
