A man wearing a mask sprays something on an apartment's front door and films it with his smartphone.
This is a scene of so-called "private retaliation agency," where individuals are paid to spray filth or other substances on the houses of targets designated by clients.
Following exclusive reports by SBS in March, it was confirmed that customer addresses leaked from a subcontractor of the food delivery platform Baedal Minjok were used for private retaliation, exposing the reality of the retaliation gang.
A 44-year-old woman surnamed Yeo, who disguised herself as a customer service employee at a Baedal Minjok subcontractor under the orders of the mastermind, stealing around 1,000 pieces of customer personal information for millions of won per month, was sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial yesterday (October 7) and taken into judicial custody.
[Yeo (last April): (Why did you do this?) ....... (Don't you feel sorry for the victims?) .......]
The court sentenced 36-year-old Lee and 34-year-old Jeong, the masterminds who directed Yeo to take the undercover job, to three years in prison each.
Their defense claims—that the actual crimes were committed by the active operatives and that they were only guilty of aiding and abetting—were rejected.
The court rebuked them, stating, "Delivery addresses are information inevitably entrusted to businesses for daily life," and added, "The defendants turned the homes where victims should feel safest into targets for retaliatory acts."
It also emphasized, "Private retaliation bypasses the rule of law and the criminal justice system to exact self-administered punishment, causing massive social harm."
