Actor Michelle Yeoh, who received the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award at the Busan International Film Festival, said that both the film festival and herself started in Asia and achieved the goal of reaching out to the world, making the honor deeply meaningful.
Yeoh received the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award, given to filmmakers who have contributed to the development of the Asian film industry and culture, at the opening ceremony on October 6.
During a press conference yesterday, Yeoh said, "The Busan International Film Festival and I have walked this path for a long time, and we have both achieved our goal of starting in Asia, going out to the world, and sharing our culture."
Yeoh reflected that it was not easy to stand on the global stage as an Asian filmmaker.
She noted that she was a minority in Hollywood and was not given many roles, but she gradually expanded the scope of her roles.
She added that winning the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2023 inspired her to do even more.
Stating that she still has love and passion for films, she also strongly expressed her willingness to collaborate with Korean filmmakers, including director Lee Chang-dong.
