A newly organized social media promotion task force in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, is drawing significant attention from both inside and outside the region just about two weeks after its launch.

According to the city on October 7, a roughly 30-second video posted the previous day on the new online promotional channel "Gangneung Viewers" surpassed 1.25 million views on Instagram as of that day.

Gangneung Viewers is a channel where public officials directly plan and appear in videos to deliver municipal news in an entertaining and approachable way, operating mainly through Instagram and YouTube.

Since releasing its first video on September 23, the channel has accumulated about 1.85 million views on Instagram and approximately 19,000 views on YouTube across nine videos.

Despite being a fledgling channel, its videos are spreading widely and turning heads in a short period.

The social media promotion task force incorporates municipal information into trendy dances, songs, and short sketches, while providing detailed information on policies and projects through captions and comments.

Requests for event and policy promotions from various departments are also pouring in.

The city plans to expand its topics to include Gangneung's places, people, and everyday stories moving forward, while also introducing serialized projects and longer-form videos.

Choi Yong-gyu, head of the Administrative Support Division, stated, "The ideas and challenges of our young staff are leading to new attempts to promote Gangneung. We will capture diverse stories to give residents the joy of rediscovering our region and to inspire visitors from other areas to want to come to Gangneung."
