A man in his 20s who blocked a patrol car, hurled insults at police officers, and resisted arrest has been apprehended after being subdued with a Taser.
The Cheongju Sangdang Police Station announced on October 7 that it is investigating the man, referred to as A, without detention on charges of obstruction of official duties.
A is accused of sliding his foot under the tire of a patrol car and biting the back of a police officer's hand while police attempted to arrest him on a street in Yongam-dong, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju, at around 10:20 PM on October 2.
Police officers who were dispatched to the scene following a report that someone was being assaulted found no evidence of an assault upon arrival, and instead began checking whether A, who was nearby, was involved.
When A began cursing and blocking the patrol car from moving, police attempted to arrest him.
According to authorities, as A resisted and used physical force—such as biting an officer's hand—police used a Taser three times to subdue him.
A is reportedly claiming that the multiple uses of the Taser by police during the arrest process constituted excessive force.
In light of this claim, police plan to review the situation at the time and the appropriateness of the Taser's usage.
