▲ KT Wiz's Choi Won-jun hits a double with two outs and no runners on in the bottom of the 5th inning, tying the single-season record with his 202nd hit during the 2026 KBO League game against the Samsung Lions at Suwon KT Wiz Park on October 7.
KT Wiz contact hitter Choi Won-jun has set a new professional baseball record for the most hits in a single season.
Today on October 7, during a home game against the Samsung Lions at Suwon KT Wiz Park in Gyeonggi Province, Choi faced Samsung reliever Lee Seung-hyun in a full-count battle with the team leading 3-0 in the bottom of the 7th inning with a runner on first and no outs. He pushed the 7th pitch the other way, sending it dropping just in front of the left fielder for a hit.
With this 203rd hit of the season, Choi broke the previous single-season record of 202 hits set by Victor Reyes of the Lotte Giants in 2024, surpassing it in two years.
Playing side by side as leadoff designated hitters on this day, Choi and Reyes both hit their 202nd hits consecutively in the 5th inning, entering the countdown to the new record.
Having been quiet without a hit up to that point, Choi recorded his 202nd hit in the 5th inning with a double slicing into right-center.
Reyes also reached his 202nd hit with an infield hit in the 5th inning during a home game against the KIA Tigers at Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan.
Choi's hit was one where he immediately knew it was going to be extra bases the moment it made contact.
Choi hit his 200th, 201st, 202nd, and 203rd hits all before Reyes.
Reyes's hit had a stroke of fortune to it.
KIA third baseman Kim Do-young failed to cleanly secure the bouncing ball in his glove, and the official scorer recorded it as an infield hit on the scoresheet.
Although Choi set the new record first, Reyes has the advantage in further increasing his hit total.
Excluding today's game, KT has 2 games remaining, while Lotte has 4 more games left to play.
