The Korea Consumer Agency has issued a consumer advisory regarding damages related to interior remodeling construction.

A total of approximately 2,200 damage relief applications have been filed from 2023 through the first half of this year. Notably, applications in the first half of this year increased by 22% compared to the same period last year.

Complaints regarding poor workmanship and defective repairs accounted for the largest share at 56.9%, which included contractors refusing to acknowledge defects or cutting off communication.

The Consumer Agency advised consumers to verify whether a contractor is registered for construction work when undertaking projects worth 15 million won or more, and to explicitly specify material standards and specifications in the contract.
